Nano Balance Technology
What is Nano Balance Technology?
Nano Balance Technology is a proprietary development platform for rubber materials that combines material properties, analysis data, analysis methods and forecast data and is thus able to predict the properties of rubber compounds with high precision.
Material development has always been a lengthy and cost-intensive process in tyre development. A tire consists of up to 10 different rubber compounds, which are optimized for the respective areas and purposes. In today's tyre development, new compounds are developed on the basis of existing compounds. Testing their performance currently only works by mixing and testing the rubber compound. This is a very time-consuming and costly process. With the help of material informatics (MI), Toyo Tires has been working on the prediction of formulations and physical properties since 2018. With advances in the precision of the technology, Toyo Tires was also able to investigate the expanded application of the target data in 2019, such as linking with external data.
Recipe development with data resources
Rubber is a composite that becomes polymer by adding fillers and other components to the base material. Each component has a direct effect on the properties of the product and therefore requires more control over its type and quantity, as well as adjustments to the processing method. Even small deviations in the rubber compound can be responsible for completely different performance indicators. Tyres are a high-tech product and, as the only connection to the road, are highly relevant to safety. It is therefore important to develop rubber compounds with maximum performance so that the conflict of objectives between minimum rolling resistance (performance with low fuel consumption) and the shortest possible braking distances (performance on wet roads) can be resolved in the best possible way.
By introducing MI technology, Toyo Tires has built a system that makes high-precision predictions of properties and formulations. For tyre development, this means efficient material development with significantly less effort. The system includes a non-linear regression model that can make advanced predictions beyond what is known by importing external information into a database.
